Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) conducted yet another successful edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2018), with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinching their third title of the Twenty20 history.

Yes, the tournament was one of the most closely fought competitions in the history. Well, as many as seven teams were in contention for the final four spots in the playoff stage, until the last league day.

However, IPL is the only edition where some events did not transpire collectively, thus making it one of a kind.

Here we look at four events which did not occur this season of IPL.

1. Match abandoned due to rain:

Due to the heavy load of international cricket, BCCI only has a specific window between April and May, such that stars from all over the world feature in the tournament.

Also, this is a time of pre-monsoon showers in India. Therefore, we have seen a number of matches being abandoned in the by-gone seasons of the IPL.

Even though Duckworth Lewis (DLS) methods were applied in some matches in IPL, interestingly, no matches were forced to abandoned due to an inclement weather.

2. Six struck off a Free Hit:

A major component of the success of Twenty20 cricket was the free hit. It penalizes bowlers for overstepping or being erroneous in short or full deliveries.

As a matter of fact, in this edition of the T20 leg, none of the bowlers were dispatched over the boundary, on a free hit.

Which directs towards a growing pattern of bowlers tending to become wily, and difficult to dislodge under pressure.

3. A bowler taking a hat-trick:

If we bring out statistics over the last decade of T20 cricket, a bowler taking a hattrick has become a common phenomenon.

With batsmen trying to pace up the innings with wickets in hand at the death, bowlers these days have equal opportunities to clinch wickets in clumps.

Again, this IPL, 2018 bowlers were not able to take three wickets in three successive balls. Interestingly, it has been an anomaly, if we look at the last ten editions of the tournament.

4. Super over:

From the first match to the 60th match of IPL 2018, one thing which fans and even Brett Lee from commentary desired was a super over.

Unfortunately, none of the matches this season ended on a tie. Moreover, the results were decided before a super over, much to the disappointment of the viewers.
