Former Delhi Daredevils’ captain Gautam Gambhir, who shocked DD fans by stepping down as the leader of the franchise, suggested that the management didn’t pressurise him for the move.

In fact, Gambhir claimed he decided to step down from his coveted position.

Barring the first match against Kings XI Punjab, where he scored a slow half-century, GG has looked out of sorts with the bat, opening for the Daredevils.

Also, Delhi has struggled to succeed in the tournament, in all the away games as well as the solitary home game.

As a result, Daredevils are now placed at the bottom of the table with five losses in the six games played, with a disappointing net run rate of -1.1.

Which means, the Daredevils need to win at least six out of the next few games to maximise their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.

Gambhir, in his tweet, mentioned he would want to stay behind his team even if he is not leading from the front.

True, that I’ve stepped down from DD captaincy. Just to clarify it was my call, nothing from the management or coaching staff,” tweeted Gautam Gambhir.

Also, the two-time IPL winning captain for the Knight Riders went on to state that no individual is bigger than the team.

I may not be leading from the front but I will be the last man standing for @DelhiDaredevils. No individual bigger than d team. Very much a #DilDIlli,” continued Gambhir.
