Chennai Super Kings (CSK) led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the second team after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to book their place in the Indian Premier League’s playoffs stage. In all likelihood, the two teams will finish at the top two positions. Hence will get an extra match to qualify for the grand finale of the season eleven.

Meanwhile, there is no doubt about the fact that the skipper of CSK, Dhoni is a cricketing icon wherever he goes to play. He has been in scintillating form in this edition of the tournament so far.

The 36-year-old Dhoni has gained from strength to strength as the tournament has progressed and has been an asset for Chennai in the middle order.

The Ranchi-born Dhoni has amassed 413 runs in the tournament so far at a staggering average of 98 in 12 matches so far. He also smashed the most sixes in the tournament and hopes to bag the record by the time the Twenty20 competition culminates.

The gesture of the groundstaff:

Given his aura and presence in the field, mostly every Indian hero-worships him. Following Chennai’s eight-wicket victory against Hyderabad, some of the ground staff of the MCA Stadium in Pune presented a lovely gift to Dhoni for his contribution to the franchise.

The staff presented a framed photograph of Dhoni with his cute little daughter Ziva.

It must be noted that CSK has been making a return to the tournament after serving a couple of years suspension due to the involvement of their owners in betting scandal back in 2013.

Interestingly, Chennai has never missed out on a playoffs berth since 2008. Well, so far they have been part of nine editions of the lucrative T20 league. They won the tournament in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

Maybe, the year 2018 might give them the third PL title under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Meanwhile coming back to Sunday’s match, it was a brilliant knock from the blade of Ambati Rayudu. His innings ensured Chennai reaching the target of 180 set by Sunrisers quite comprehensively in the end.

Dhawan and Williamson batted brilliantly for the Hyderabad as they eventually posted 179 on the board. Chennai was in no trouble whatsoever.

The openers provided a terrific 134-run stand. It eventually helped them win the match by eight wickets and with an over to spare. Rayudu scored a breathtaking century and remained unbeaten on exactly hundred.
