Rajasthan Royals (RR) ace spinner, Ish Sodhi admitted that they need to overcome the inability to perform consistently in both batting and bowling ahead of the important clash against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 11 (Friday) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Meanwhile, they are currently in the sixth spot of the Indian Premier League’s (IPL points table. They need to win all their remaining games. However, the Royals will have an uphill task in hand – to beat the in-form CSK.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Sodhi admitted that they need to shine in both aspects to beat Chennai.

We have had some good batting performances but we backed it by poor bowling. We have had good bowling but we have backed it up with bad batting performances. That has been the main issue. The games that we won, we played both assets of the game well,” Hindustan Times quoted Sodhi.

Out of the 10 games, the Royals have only won four matches. Moreover, they banked on individual brilliance to win all those four fixtures.

Take wickets, not contain runs –

Sodhi emphasised on picking wickets rather than containing the flow of runs. The Kiwi spinner admitted that Shane Warne has been ingraining this attitude among the players.

In Twenty20s, it is easy to have a defensive mindset. Warne attacked and he was good at it. Twenty20 is all about trying to stop runs. The best way to stop runs is by taking wickets. Being aggressive is the best thing and that is what he is drilling into my brain,” he added.

Gowtham’s inputs key to my bowling –

The 25-year-old Ish Sodhi said adapting to different wickets will be the key.

Kiwi international star also asserted he was relying on Krishnappa Gowtham’s inputs in order to plan his style of bowling.

I will see how the pitch is in the first six overs. I will speak to Krishnappa Gowtham, see how the wicket behaves for him and I will plan my bowling. In the last match, we batted and I could see how the wicket was to bowl and I could plan on what to bowl,” Sodhi concluded.
