It was an eventful night at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi as Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut against a strong Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side.

Skipper Virat Kohli called the toss right and asked the hosts to bat first. Junior Dala, another debutant also made his way in place of Liam Plunkett for hosts Delhi Daredevils (DD).

Openers Prithvi Shaw and Jason Roy got out cheaply as the Daredevils were restricted to 16 for two. A solid stand between in-form Rishabh Pant and skipper Shreyas Iyer ensured some stability in the middle.

Iyer departed for 32 while Pant’s cameo was cut short as Moeen Ali tricked him with spin. The southpaw top-scored with 61 off 34 balls.

The 17-year-old Abhishek Sharma hit four sixes and three fours to get his side to 181 for four in their 20 overs.

For Kohli’s men, Yuzvendra Chahal bagged two wickets for 28 runs. Ali ended his quota of four overs, conceding 25 runs and bagging a wicket.

Pacer Moammed Siraj was predictable and went for plenty. He conceded 46 runs at close to dozen an over.

Quinton de Kock lauds the skipper’s character

Quinton de Kock, who missed a couple of games due to the wedding of his good friend spoke to the reporter at the sidelines and said that he does have a good chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

“He is a good person who always looks to help a youngster out. I have never seen a guy who works as hard on youngsters,” de Kock on his skipper Kohli.

“It appears when you are playing against him that he is quite emotional. But he is not. When you play with him, you know it’s just Virat being Virat. He is very passionate and wants to win,” he added.

It will be a tricky chase as RCB will look to stay afloat in the competition of IPL and with Kohli and AB de Villiers in the lineup, anything can happen.
