It decided to retain it’s core, by retaining Steven Smith and using Right to Match (RTM) card on Ajinkya Rahane. By bringing back Warne too, they brought back another key member of the previous side.

Warne led the team to title victory in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008. He played as captain cum mentor before retiring from the league in 2011.

He ended his tourney with 58 wickets in 56 IPL games.

Warne, who played his last international game in 2007, will spearhead the backroom staff of Rajasthan Royals. The franchise had recently appointed Zubin Bharucha as their Cricketing Operations Head.

It (franchise) is yet to decide on their bowling and fielding coach, an announcement regarding which may be made soon.

Though, the franchise has already inked on captain Steven Smith to lead the team.

In the last season of IPL, Smith led Rising Pune Supergiant franchise to the final of the tournament before they lost the last ball thriller to Mumbai Indians by just 1 run.

Rajasthan Royals will look forward to the captaincy credentials of Smith, who is also the captain of Australia.

Though his lack of appearances in T20I games in recent time may be something which might affect him to assimilate to this format.
