IPL 2018: Smiling Faces All Around As Suresh Raina Posts Winning Selfie After Chennai Super Kings Enter Final

Chennai Super Kings are just one win away from making their comeback season a dream. The Super Kings had returned to the league this season after a two-year absence. They along with Rajasthan Royals were banned for a couple of years in 2015 due to corruption charges.

Prior to the ban, the Super Kings had enjoyed stellar success in the league. They are still the only side to win back-to-back league titles. They also made it to the final on four different occasions. The Chennai-based franchise also won the now-scrapped Champions League T20 twice. But not surprisingly, there were apprehensions that they would struggle to replicate their past form in their comeback season.

However, they hit the ground running. In their first two games, they beat defending champions Mumbai Indians and two-time IPL winners Kolkata Knight Riders to prove their title credentials. On Tuesday (May 22), they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad to live up to the early season hype and made it to the final. The Super Kings beat the Sunrisers by two wickets in the first Qualifier. It was yet another contest where the match went right down to the wire before the Super Kings stamped their authority.

The fortunes swung from one side to other before Faf du Plessis sealed the game for the Super Kings. Chasing a modest 140, the Super Kings were in all sorts of trouble after being reduced to 57 for 5. They later found themselves 8 down for just 113 in 17.5 overs. However, du Plessis remained till the last, scoring an unbeaten 67 to take his side home with five balls to spare.

As expected, the mood in the Super Kings’ was upbeat after the win and Suresh Raina’s after-match selfie pretty much proves it. The southpaw posted a photo on his Twitter account with smiling faces all around, writing:

“#WhistlePodu Winning #Selfi ?✌☝”

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
