Ambati Rayudu’s dream run in the ongoing Indian Premier League’s (IPL) season continued as he scored his maiden IPL century to help Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in order to thrash table-toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets in Pune.

The opening batsman Rayudu scored an unbeaten 100 off 62 balls with the help of seven fours and as many sixes.

Chasing 180, Super Kings openers – Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu – came out all guns blazing. Watson was the aggressor during the partnership while Rayudu played the role of the second fiddle early on.

However, as the innings progressed, both the players started matching each other shots for shots.

At the end of the powerplay, the Super Kings were 53 for no loss. The duo continued to make merry with the bat, helping the team reach the hundred run-mark in just the 11th over.

Prior to that, both the openers had completed their fifties respectively. Watson was the first to reach the milestone, taking 31 balls for the same while Rayudu took as many balls as his partner took to score the half-century.

Sunrisers finally got the much-needed breakthrough in the 14th over when Watson was run out for 57. The Australian all-rounder departed after adding 134 runs with Rayudu. Sandeep Sharma then sent back Suresh Raina for just two- to put some pressure on the Super Kings.

However, Rayudu and Mahendra Singh Dhoni did not let the visitors capitalise on the two quick wickets. The duo stitched together an unbeaten stand of 43 runs to take Super Kings home.

Before that, Rayudu scored his first IPL hundred, reaching the milestone off 62 balls. Dhoni then finished off the proceedings with a single on the last ball of the 19th over.

Earlier in the game, fifties from Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan helped Sunrisers recover from a poor start and post a challenging total of 179 for four.

The Sunrisers made a shaky start after being put in to bat first. Opener Alex Hales found it tough to get going and was playing on two off nine balls before being sent back Deepak Chahar.

Hales’ dismissal brought in-form duo of Dhawan and Williamson on the crease.

Fresh off their record 176-run stand in the last game against Delhi Daredevils, the duo started building the innings. They took their time early on and as a result, the score was a modest 29 for one after the powerplay.

It, however, was no precursor of the things that were to follow. Both the players soon found their groove and runs started to flow.

The next four overs after the powerplay yielded 33 runs as the duo started laying the foundation for a good total.

By the time, the fifteenth over ended, the scoreboard was reading 130 as the Sunrisers had accumulated 68 runs in five overs.

In the meantime, Dhawan had raced away to his fifty off 31 balls with a six off Ravindra Jadeja. Williamson followed suit and reached his fifty off 37 balls.

The stand was finally broken in the 16th over when Dwayne Bravo sent back Dhawan for 79.

A ball later, Shardul Thakur sent back Williamson, giving Super Kings a chance to turn things around. But a cameo from Deepak Hooda (21) then helped Sunrisers finish on 179.
