The Chennai Super Kings managed to prevail in a nail-biting encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad after winning the 20th match of the tournament by four runs.
Hyderabad skipper, Kane Williamson played a terrific knock of 84 runs. However, it went in vain, as Chennai ended up winning the encounter by four runs. Yusuf Pathan and Rashid Khan also played some good cameos.
An umpiring error played a very important part in the outcome of the match in the end.
Chasing a stiff target of 183 to win, Hyderabad got off to the worst possible starts losing their first three wickets for a mere 22 runs. Deepak Chahar bowled splendidly and bagged all three wickets in the powerplay. It was Kane Williamson and Shakib Al Hasan who started the resurrecting work.
However, the runs weren’t coming at a brisk clip which didn’t really allow them to minimize the required run rate.
It was Kane Williamson who took on the attack to Karn Sharma in one over which changed the complexion of the game in no time. The stylish batsman smashed three sixes in that over.
Getting confidence from his skipper, Yusuf too joined in the act and smashed a couple of sixes more in the very next over which helped SRH slowly but steadily claw their way back into the match.
The umpiring decision costs SRH the match
On the 2nd delivery of the 17th over, Shardul Thakur bowled a very high full toss which was given a no-ball by the on-field umpire.
It was indeed a very high full toss. Williamson swayed it towards the square leg. He was baffled by the decision, as it wasn’t given a no-ball. The replays also showed that ball was over the waist.
Earlier in the day, it was a sensational knock by Ambati Rayudu and Suresh Raina which propelled Chennai to a score of 182 on the board. It was a terrific comeback by the yellow brigade after a horrendous start.
#SRH lose by 4 runs. At least 2 no-balls were NOT called in the death overs. That's why we need to apply common sense and use the technology to get the right decisions.

This is a No Ball. Above waist height. Got to be a free hit. Could be critical. #Thakur #Kane #SRHvCSK #IPL

State of umpiring in this IPL#IPL2018— Akki (@CrickPotato) April 22, 2018
Can't understand why the third umpire can't intervene and call that a no ball. When you've the technology why don't you use it to eliminate howlers #SRHvCSK #IPL2018

That no – ball of Thakur to Williamson which is not given by the umpire made the difference. #SRHvCSK

4 runs that could have been made off a free hit had it been called, these decisions can be crucial in a game why are we not taking the time to make sure the right call is made?
