Riding on Prithvi Shaw’s blazing fifty, Delhi Daredevils posted 163 for 5 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Delhi Daredevils came up with a new opening combination – promoting misfiring Glenn Maxwell to open with Prithvi Shaw. However, the move did not pay off as the Australian was run out for just 2. But it was not the precursors of the things that were to follow.

In-form duo of Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer took the attack to the opposition to ease the pressure off. In the last over of the powerplay, Shaw hit Siddarth Kaul for a six and three fours to take the score to 60 for 1 in six overs. Out of those 60 runs, Shaw had scored 48 off just 23 balls. The teenager soon completed his fifty off just 25 balls.  Runs continued to come thick and fast even after the powerplay as Delhi raced away to 95 after ten overs.

Sunrisers finally managed to dismiss Shaw on the very first ball after the tenth over. Rashid Khan accounted for the opener after he slammed 65 off just 36 balls. Delhi reached the 100-run mark in the 12th over. Shaw’s dismissal allowed the Sunrisers to stem the flow of runs as Iyer and Rishabh Pant found it tough to score quickly. At the end of the 15th over, the score was 125 for 2. On the very next ball after the fifteenth over,  Kaul accounted for Iyer to put the hosts on top. The Delhi skipper scored 44 off 36 balls.

Delhi’s hopes of finishing strongly then took further blows as Naman Ojha and Pant were out in quick succession. Vijay Shankar and Dan Christian then helped Delhi cross the 150-run mark and post a challenging total.
