IPL 2018: Virender Sehwag sheds light on wicketkeeping role for KXIP

One of the Indian Premier League (IPL), franchise Kings XI Punjab, is aiming to make big in the upcoming edition of the Twenty20 league. However, the team mentor Virender Sehwag has further talked about the wicketkeeping options available in the squad.

“Yes, we don’t have any flamboyant wicket-keeper but we are concentrating more on winning the matches this year,” Sehwag said while going live on an official Facebook page of KXIP with Ravichandran Ashwin.

On February 26, KXIP management has reposed faith in Ashwin as a skipper of the northern team in the IPL.

The outfit KXIP was involved in the interesting bids in the mega two-day auction from January 27-28 in Bengaluru respectively.

Active on the table KXIP loses on twice in snapping the player against the Chennai Super Kings owing to the Right to Match card’s availability.

The decision also took many by surprise. It further believed Yuvraj Singh could have been asked to shoulder the responsibility.

With 21 players listed in the squad, KXIP management is looking forward to making most out of the opportunities for the change in the mindset this time around.

As the cash-rich eleventh edition is an exciting one for fans of CSK and Rajasthan Royals, KXIP has introduced youngsters in the squad.

Owing to the settled unit Punjab has already availed the services of Aaron Finch, David Miller and Andrew Tye in particular. With the introduction of the former KXIP skipper Yuvraj, the team would have a lot on offer.

Moreover, the former explosive opener Sehwag made the live session on Facebook interesting. He thoroughly considered the options of glovemen in the team.

“Many of our fans were thinking that we don’t have any wicketkeepers in our squad. I think KL Rahul and Akshdeep Nath are the wicket-keepers and have done the job before,” said Sehwag in a live show on Facebook.

Regarding the strategies, it would be interesting to see how the off-spinner will lead his side. The blockbuster will begin on April seven.

“I don’t think we don’t need any extra player in the side who can play as the wicket-keeper,” Sehwag asserted.

KXIP would be solely relying on the experience and the youngsters. The team is capable of delivering goods for the outfit. Sehwag also made it clear who is going to don the gloves owing to the first choice wicketkeeper.

“Ashwin has talked with KL Rahul regarding the wicketkeeping and he has agreed to do the job. But in case if he is not able due to some reason, we have Akshdeep Nath who plays Ranji Trophy for UP and is an experienced wicket-keeper,” Virender Sehwag concluded.

In the curtain-raiser – the reigning champions Mumbai Indians to face CSK at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai.

In 2014, KXIP were the part of the grand-finale but further failed to leave a significant impact in a nutshell.
