The first game hosted at Holkar Stadium, Indore, in this year’s IPL, saw Mumbai Indians clinch a desperate couple of points to remain alive in the tournament.

Chris Gayle and KL Rahul set up the innings perfectly for hosts Kings XI Punjab with early pyrotechnics. However, the Mumbai Indians bowlers crawled their way back in during the middle overs, to restrict the free-flowing batting lineup of Punjab.

Finally, it had come down to Marcus Stoinis to take his side across the finishing line. With his quick score, Kings XI was able to post 175 in front of Mumbai Indians, who struggled to finish off games this season.

MI’s ship got steadied after a decent start from Suryakumar Yadav. But, with wickets falling at crucial junctures of the game, the men in blue were beginning to lose their shape.

In the end, Rohit Sharma and Krunal Pandya saved their best for the last with 55 required off 27 deliveries. It was all too comfortable for the visitors, as they clinched an important six-wicket win over KXIP.

Opener Suryakumar Yadav, who has turned out to be Mr. consistent this season, was awarded the man of the match award.

I am enjoying my new role, opening the innings for Mumbai Indians. Pushing it really hard every game, trying to give good starts so that it helps the team to set good totals. Also while chasing, we need to begin well to ease the pressure off the others in the middle order,” Suryakumar Yadav told during the press conference.

(On his plans as an opener) I am not thinking too much, trying to keep it simple. Trying to play my natural game opening the innings, not trying too many things. Feeling really good and trying to improve my game as time goes by. Would like to finish games off too,” concluded SK Yadav.
