There were 70 slots available for the IPL 2019 for all the eight franchise for the upcoming edition. 226 Indian players had signed up for the auctions whereas 125 overseas players had made the cut. Consequently, there were 351 players from 13 countries that had gone under the hammer.

Meanwhile, all the eight teams could have spent a whopping amount of INR 145.25 Crores in the auction. The teams went all guns blazing for the players they wanted in their team.

Most Expensive Buys of IPL 2019 Auctions

Jaydev Unadkat was the most expensive Indian players in IPL 2018 auction. However, Unadkat could not justify his price as his performance was not up to the mark in the previous season.

Meanwhile, Jaydev Unadkat had set his base price at INR 1.5 crore after he was released by Rajasthan Royals. However, Rajasthan Royals once again went for the medium pacer as he was bought for INR 8.40 crores.

Unadkat was the second highest wicket-taker in the 2017 edition of the IPL and would like to come up with that kind of performance in 2019 season. However, Unadkat had admitted that a high price of INR 11.5 Crores in IPL 2018 had put extra pressure on him.

Varun Chakravarty grabbed eyeballs in the IPL auction when he was picked by Kings XI Punjab for a whopping price of INR 8.40 crores. The mystery spinner who has the ability to turn the ball both ways, became the cynosure of all eyes when he had a prolific season in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.

The mystery spinner scalped nine wickets in ten matches in the TNPL 2018. Furthermore, he didn’t let the batsmen off the hook as he bowled with a splendid economy of INR 4.70. Thus, Varun Chakravarty was instrumental in the success of Siechem Madurai Panthers as the team went on to win the league.

Moreover, Varun took 22 wickets in the nine matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018.

Sam Curran: INR 7.2 Crores

Sam Curran had come up with a fine performance against India in the Test series. He had added crucial runs while batting in the lower order as he was a major difference in the Test series. Furthermore, the all-rounder carried his form against Sri Lanka. Thus, Sam Curran was the cynosure of all eyes in IPL 2019 Auction. The southpaw batsman was bought for INR 7.2 rupees by Kings XI Punjab. Hence, Curran will like to impress in the 12th season of the cash-rich league.

However, Curran is not going to be available after May 1 as England players are not allowed in playoff stages due to World Cup preparation.

Colin Ingram: INR 6.40 Crores

The southpaw Proteas batsman Colin Ingram was bought for a whopping INR 6.40 Crores by Delhi Capitals. Colin Ingram had also earlier played three matches for the Delhi Franchise. Colin Ingram is a clean hitter of the ball and can provide the solidarity in the middle order for Delhi Capitals.

Meanwhile, Ingram has played 202 T20 matches in which he has scored 5186 runs, thus he has all the experience under his belt. He has scored his runs at a strike rate of 139 in the shortest form of the game. However, Ingram has played only nine T20Is for South Africa in which he has scored 210 runs at a strike rate of 129.

Axar Patel: INR 5 Crores

The southpaw all-rounder Axar Patel was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 5 crores. Patel has the skills to keep the runs down as he doesn’t let the batsmen off the hook. Furthermore, the southpaw batsman can contribute with the bat while batting in the lower order.

Axar Patel is a gun fielder as he can take some staggering catches. Thus, Axar Patel is a complete all-around package and is a good addition to the Delhi side. Hence, Patel will like to grab his opportunities while playing for the Delhi Capitals.

Shivam Dubey: INR 5 Crores

The 24-year Shivam Dubey had made the headlines as he scored five sixes in one over. Dubey has been a consistent performer for the Mumbai team in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.

Consequently, the Royal Challengers Bangalore has bagged the services of Shivam Dubey for a whopping price of INR 5 crores. Shivam Dubey had also scored a double century recently. Consequently, the southpaw batsman will look forward to taking a leaf out of players like AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli.

Carlos Brathwaite: INR 5 Crores

The Windies T20I captain Carlos Brathwaite was bagged by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 5 Crores. Brathwaite had played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the previous edition of the league.

Brathwaite is well known for his pyrotechnics in the fag end of the innings and can provide quick runs. Furthermore, the right-handed all-rounder can land his yorkers with deadly accuracy. Ergo, Brathwaite is a good addition for the Kolkata Knight Riders who would look to make the most of his skills.

Mohit Sharma: INR 5 Crores

Mohit Sharma has returned to Chennai Super Kings for a whopping price of INR 5 Crores. The Indian pacer will like to repeat his success for Men in Yellow. Meanwhile, Chennai had only two places left and both the places were to be taken by Indian players before the auction.

Mohit Sharma had played for the Kings XI Punjab in the previous season. The fast bowler has a good yorker and also has a good slower ball from the back of the hand. Sharma has played 84 matches in which he has taken 90 wickets in the Indian Premier League.

Mohammed Shami: INR 4.8 Crores

Mohammed Shami was taken for a whopping price of INR 4.8 crores by Kings XI Punjab. Shami has been in fine form in the recent past and has bowled with fire.

Shami had bowled with fire in the second innings of the second Test match at Perth against Australia. The Indian pacer took 6-56 as he scalped his best bowling figures in the red ball version. Consequently, Shami will like to carry the same form for the Punjab franchise.

Shami has taken 21 wickets in the 35 IPL matches he has played thus far.

Prabhsimran Singh: INR 4.8 Crores

Not many expected the 17-year old Prabhsimran Singh to be the amongst the highest bidding players. The right-handed batsman was taken by Kings XI Punjab for a whopping price of INR 4.8 crores.

Prabhsimran Singh had done well in the recently concluded Under-19 Asia Cup. Thus, the wicketkeeper-batsman will like to make the most of his opportunities while playing for the Punjab side.
