IPL 2019: Chennai Super Kings' Dwayne Bravo Ruled Out For Two Weeks

Things have not panned out on a good note for Chennai Super Kings in the last few days. Earlier this week, they had to suffer their first defeat of the season when they lost by 37 runs against Mumbai Indians. It was Chennai Super Kings’ first defeat after they won their opening three games. Chasing 170, the defending champions came up with a disastrous batting performance and managed just 133 for 8 against their bitter rivals.

Following the end of the game, skipper MS Dhoni had rued the absence of a pacer in the team who could hit the deck hard. He had also said that how things are going to get tougher for his team as allrounder Dwayne Bravo is having an injury while David Willey and Lungi Ngidi are not with the team.

“We will have to see the wicket for the next game, we have to see the combination. Bravo has an hamstring injury, we don’t have a few players, we already have some injuries, David Willey isn’t there, he has his own problems, Lungi Ngidi isn’t with us as well, we will have to look at the pitch and then decide on the right combination,” said MS Dhoni.

Ngidi is out of the entire competition after suffering a side strain in South Africa’s ODI series against Sri Lanka. Later, David Willey pulled out of the competition due to family reasons.

Earlier this week, the Super Kings announced the signing of New Zealand pacer Scott Kuggeleijn as replacement for Ngidi.

However, Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings have suffered another blow as Dwayne Bravo is now sidelined for two weeks. The former Indies allrounder has suffered a Grade One Hamstring tear and will take at least two weeks to regain full fitness.

Losing Bravo at this stage is a big blow for the Super Kings who play against Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals and twice against Kolkata Knight Riders before next Sunday. With no frontline pacer from overseas, the defending champions will have their task cut out in the upcoming games without Bravo.
