MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings proved their credentials for winning the title once again by dismantling high-flying Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday. In the table of the table clash, it was the Super Kings who came out with flying colours.  The defending champions thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets to move to the top of the points table. Super Kings have now won 5 of their opening six games.

It was a clinical performance from the three-time champions at their home which is nothing less than a fortress for them. Almost everything fell in place for them after MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to field first. On the slow track of Chepauk, the high-flying Knight Riders looked clueless and lost wickets at regular intervals. They eventually finished their innings on 108 for 9 thanks to an unbeaten fifty from the in-form Andre Russell.

At one stage, they were reeling at 35 for 5 but thanks to Russell they managed to post a total worth fighting for.

However, the modest total turned out to be too less in the end as the Super Kings chased it down without breaking much sweat. The hosts crossed the line in the 18th over after losing just three wickets. Faf du Plessis top-scored for the side, scoring an unbeaten 43 while Kedar Jadhav scored 21.

But despite the win, Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni looked far from being pleased and did not refrain from venting his frustration. The reason behind the anger was the nature of the Chepauk pitch this year. Batsmen have struggled to put runs on the board on most occasion on the slow track and Dhoni just could not stop himself from speaking his mind out.

“I don’t think we want to be playing on these tracks. It becomes too low scoring. It becomes slightly difficult for our batsmen as well. It is slightly more difficult batting first but once the dew comes in, it gets better, said MS Dhoni at the post-match presentation ceremony.

He, however, was quick to acknowledge the support he has received from Chennai.

“I have been here for a very long time. Lot of good things have happened for me here including my Test debut. The crowd loves CSK and I have been a part of the franchise from the start. It is a special connection and they have really adopted me,” said the 37-year old.
