Mumbai Indians, on Tuesday, suffered a mighty bow when their talismanic skipper Rohit Sharma hobbled off the field while training. After a long hit in the nets, Rohit Sharma was working out in the outfield when he was seen collapsing to the ground, clutching his right thigh. Team physio Nitin Patel soon rushed to Rohit’s aid before the latter picked himself up and hobbled around the boundary rope. He then made a slow and painful walk to the dressing room.

The extent of the injury is not known yet but the way Rohit clutched his thigh, it looked like a case of hamstring injury.Depending on whether it is a strain or tear, hamstring injuries can take between two to six weeks to heal. Missing Rohit will be a mighty blow for Mumbai at this stage. After a slow start to the season, the three-time winners finally hit the top gear in the last week. In their previous two outings they beat Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Mumbai will be desperate that their skipper recovers as soon as possible and will be hoping that the injury is nothing serious.

Well not everything is gloomy for Mumbai Indians at the moment as their veteran pacer Lasith Malinga has now re-joined them. The veteran pacer, Mumbai Indians’ highest wicket-taker of all time, joined the Mumbai Indians camp on Tuesday.

Malinga had played three matches for Mumbai Indians this season before flying to Sri Lanka to take part in Sri Lanka’s Super Provincial One-Day tournament. He led Galle in the competition as the Sri Lankan selectors made it compulsory for the players to play the domestic competition to be considered for World Cup selection. Malinga had a sensational outing in Sri Lanka, picking up a total of eight wickets in the three matches, including a seven-wicket haul against Kandy.

According to reports, Malinga will again fly to Sri Lanka for the final against Colombo on Thursday after playing the match against Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday. The senior pacer was seen bowling at the nets during Mumbai Indians’ practice session. However, it would be interesting to see whether Mumbai Indians include him in the playing eleven or not after Alzarri Joseph’s sensational performance with the ball on his debut. The 22-year old had picked up a record 6 for 12 to help Mumbai bowl out Sunrisers for just 96 while defending 136.
