The visiting side Mumbai Indians (MI) snatched a 40-run victory in the low-scoring match against the home team Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday (6th April) night at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (Hyderabad).

MI scored 136/7 (20 overs) in the first innings after the host captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar sent them to bat first. However, the home team failed to chase that target as they were all out on 96 runs (17.4 overs).

i) The visiting side MI won this match by 40 runs. It is MI’s largest victory (by runs) against SRH as their previous record was winning by 20 runs at Mumbai on 25th April 2015. Meanwhile, it was also the second largest victory (by runs) for any team against SRH at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (Hyderabad). The record holder is Chennai Super Kings who beat SRH by 77 runs on 8th May 2013.

ii) Before this match, MI suffered three straight defeats against SRH. After 12th April 2017, it was the first time when MI beat SRH.

i) Before this match, SRH didn’t lose any wicket in the powerplay (0.1-6 overs) in this IPL season. However, on Saturday night, that streak was broken as SRH scored 39/2 at the end of the powerplay.

ii) The host side SRH was bowled out for just 96 runs. Before this innings, SRH was never bundled out for under 100 runs. Their previous lowest completed total was 113 runs, and that was once again against MI at Hyderabad (Deccan) on 17th May 2015. Meanwhile, SRH’s 96 runs innings was the sixth lowest completed T20 total for any team against MI.

i) The Caribbean pacer Alzarri Joseph made his IPL debut during this match and had the bowling figures of 3.4-1-12-6. With these bowling figures, the young man has created a new record in IPL history as it is the best bowling figures in IPL history. The 22-year-old pacer broke the previous IPL record of 4-0-14-6 by Sohail Tanvir (Rajasthan Royals) against Chennai Super Kings at Jaipur on 4th May 2008. In overall, Alzarri Joseph’s latest bowling performance is the eighth-best bowling figures in T20 cricket history.
