The defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinched an easy victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday (9th April) night at MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai). On the night, the home team CSK beat the visiting side KKR by seven wickets (with 16 balls remaining).

After winning the toss, the CSK captain MS Dhoni sent the visiting side to bat first. The visiting team mostly struggled in the first innings and they only managed to score 108/9 (20 overs). Later, the home team comfortably reached the target in 17.2 overs after losing three wickets.

i) The Caribbean batsman Andre Russell scored unbeaten 50 runs off 44 balls. It was his seventh 50+ score for KKR. He is the third overseas batsman to play more than six 50+ scores for the Kolkata franchise. The Australian cricketer Chris Lynn has also played seven 50+ scores for KKR while the former South African cricketer Jacques Kallis played ten 50+ scores for this side.

ii) Andre Russell and Harry Gurney put a 29-run partnership for the unbroken 10th wicket. It is the joint highest partnership for the 10th wicket in IPL history. Earlier, on 17th May 2009, Siddharth Trivedi and Munaf Patel (Rajasthan Royals) also put an unbroken 29-run partnership for the 10th wicket against Delhi Daredevils at Bloemfontein.

i) The right-arm pacer Deepak Chahar delivered 20 dot balls in this match. It is the most number of dot balls by a bowler in an IPL innings. The previous record was 19 dot balls while Ashish Nehra and Munaf Patel were the joint record holders.

ii) During this match, Deepak Chahar had the bowling figures of 4-0-20-3. It is the second best bowling figures by an Indian pacer for CSK against KKR. Ashish Nehra is the record holder with the bowling figures of 4-0-21-4 at Hyderabad on 17th September 2014.
