After a long waiting, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finally claimed their first victory in IPL 2019 after beating the home team Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium (Mohali, Chandigarh) on Saturday (13th April) night.

The visiting side decided to bowl first after winning the toss. KXIP managed to score 173/4 (20 overs) while RCB successfully chased down that target in 19.2 overs after losing just both the openers.

RCB – 174/2 in 19.2 overs (Virat Kohli 67, AB de Villiers 59*; Ravichandran Ashwin 1/30)

Result – RCB won by eight wickets

i) Chris Gayle becomes the first batsman to play 100 50+ scores in T20 career.

ii) During this match, Chris Gayle remained not out on 99 runs. After Suresh Raina, Chris Gayle became the second batsman to remain not out on 99 runs in an IPL innings. Suresh Raina (Chennai Super Kings) had experienced this against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Hyderabad (Deccan) on 8th May 2013. Also, Chris Gayle’s latest innings was the third highest individual score by a KXIP batsman against RCB.

iii) Chris Gayle has hit 50 IPL sixes for KXIP and becomes the fifth KXIP batsman to hit 50 or more IPL sixes.

i) AB de Villiers has hit 200 IPL sixes and becomes the second batsman to hit 200 or more sixes in IPL career. Chris Gayle was the first man to achieve this feat as the left-handed batsman has hit 315 IPL sixes.

ii) AB de Villiers has scored 3,545 T20 runs for RCB. After Virat Kohli (5,642 runs), AB de Villiers is the second batsman to score 3,500+ T20 runs for RCB.

iii) By the end of this match, Virat Kohli has scored 8,175 T20 runs. He is the now the most T20 run-scorer as an Indian batsman after surpassing Suresh Raina (8,145 runs).
