Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma led the team from the front as they halted Delhi Capitals (DC) winning streak beating them by 40 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. With this victory, Mumbai leapfrogged Delhi to occupy the second spot in the points table with 12 points after Chennai Super Kings.

Meanwhile, it was not a comfortable journey for the Mumbai side throughout the game. The hosts made a stunning comeback in the middle overs after a flying start from Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock. Opting to bat first, the Mumbai openers justified their decision with a 57 runs opening stand in the powerplay overs. Both of them went after the bowlers in the odd deliveries and looked to rotate the strike to keep the scoreboard ticking. Delhi Capitals drew the first blood when Amit Mishra cleaned Rohit Sharma’s timber to bring 150th IPL wickets.

Rohit scale rare landmark

During his knock off 30 runs from 22 deliveries including three boundaries and one six, Rohit crossed the milestone of 8000 T20 runs. Before this game, Rohit Sharma had 7988 runs in T20 cricket, and the Mumbai skipper went past the milestone with a boundary off Chris Morris. Rohit now has 8018 runs and is only the third Indian cricketer to achieve this feat after Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli.

Moreover, India vice-captain has 4716 runs in 181 matches playing in the IPL while he has scored 2331 runs in T20I for India to be the third Indian batsmen to scale this landmark.

The departure of Rohit Sharma slowed down the proceeding for Mumbai Indians but a late carnage for Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya ensured they post 150+ runs on the scoreboard. Hardik chipped with 15-ball 32 runs while Krunal remained unbeaten on 37 runs to post 168 runs at the end of 20 overs.

In reply, leg-spinner Rahul Chahar broke the backbone of the Delhi Capitals innings with figures of three for 19 in his four overs. The pacers also chipped in well to defend the target as no Delhi batsmen looked like a threat after a good opening stand from Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw.
