Mumbai Indians’ winning run was snapped by Rajasthan Royals last week. The Rohit Sharma-led side was flying high after registering three consecutive wins before the loss. In those three games, the three-time winners had thrashed last year’s finalists Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad along with Kings XI Punjab. However, they came down crashing down to the earth with a defeat to Royals who were languishing at seventh spot in the table.

Asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians had piled up 187 for 5. Quinton de Kock starred with bat by scoring another fifty while Rohit Sharma scored 47 before Hardik Pandya played a whirlwind knock of 28 from just 11 to get his team to a big total. However, Mumbai Indians’ former player Jos Buttler came back to haunt them by scoring 88. Royals did suffer an inexplicable collapse towards the end of the game but Shreyas Iyer kept his nerve to guide the team to a much-needed win.

Mumbai Indians will now be looking to get back to winning ways when they take on Delhi Capitals on Thursday. Delhi are high on confidence after their impressive run in recent weeks and are likely to give Mumbai a tough time. But with not much games left before the playoffs start, both the teams will be desperate to win the fixture.

Mumbai Indians, nonetheless, will have to keep another thing in mind.

In addition to winning the game, their bowlers also need to finish the overs within the stipulated time. In case, they fail to do so, their skipper Rohit Sharma will land in danger of getting a ban for the slow over-rate offence. Rohit had to pay a hefty fine of INR 12 lakh after his team could not complete its quota of overs during loss to Kings XI Punjab earlier in the tournament. As a result, Rohit is in danger of missing games in the remaining part of the IPL.

A second offence over-rate would result in a fine of INR 24 lakh for the captain and of INR 6 lakh or 25% of the match fee from every other player in the team, whichever is lesser. A third offence will cost the captain INR 30 lakh and a ban from the team’s next game, while each player in the XI will be fined INR 12 lakh or 50% of the match fee, whichever is lesser.
