IPL 2019: Rohit Sharma Hails Suryakumar Yadav, Calls Him One of Their Best Players of Spin

Suryakumar Kumar played a match-winning knock to guide Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings by six wickets on a tricky pitch at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. As a result, Mumbai have booked a berth for the Sunday’s final at Hyderabad.

Batting first, Chennai Super Kings never looked in control of the game. They were struggling at 32 for three before two crucial partnership helped them cross the 100-run mark. Ambati Rayudu and Murali Vijay shared a 33-run stand before Rayudu combined well with skipper MS Dhoni added 66 runs to give something to the bowlers to bowl at.

While it looked like an easy chase, batting wasn’t an easy job at the Chepauk. Moreover, Mumbai Indians lost both their openers early to make things even tougher. But Suryakumar Yadav held the fort from one end to see his team home. The experienced batsman shared a crucial stand with Ishan Kishan (28) and then partnered Hardik Pandya to take the team home.

Suryakumar remained unbeaten on 71 runs from 54 deliveries including ten boundaries to dominate the opponent bowlers. Suryakumar Yadav who didn’t have a good start to the tournament has picked up at the right time to help his side clinch important games. Following his fabulous knock, skipper Rohit Sharma praised him calling him one of their best players of spin bowling. The Mumbai franchise has backed Yadav despite repeated failures and is yielding the results now.

“He’s (Surya) probably one of our best batsmen against spin. We knew the spin threat they possess will be a huge factor. Surya plays spin very well. I have seen him at close quarters. The shots he plays behind the wicket, those are not easy shots. Always knew he was going to come good at some stage,” Rohit said after the match.

Rohit Sharma will want one more swashbuckling knock from Suryakumar Yadav in the final to help them lift the fourth IPL title on May 12 (Sunday).
