Hardik Pandya gave Kolkata Knight Riders a mighty scare on Sunday at the Eden Gardens. The Mumbai Indians star was in such a devastating form that at one stage it looked like he would take his team home in pursuit of 232. Not many would have thought that Mumbai Indians would make a match out of the contest when the Knight Riders finished their innings on a mammoth 232 for 2 – the highest total of this season.

Chris Lynn and Shubman Gill led the foundation for the big total by adding 96 runs for the first wicket. Lynn was the first to go after he scored 54 from 29 balls. Gill and promoted Andre Russell then went on to cause mayhem with the bat to power the Knight Riders to a record total. While Gill scored 76 off 45 balls, Russell remained unbeaten on 80 from 40 balls.

In reply, Mumbai Indians were looking all out of the contest after losing 5 for just 58 in the ninth over. However, Hardik Pandya had other plans as he did not want to give up without a fight. He scored a 17-ball fifty to bring the chase on track and gave the Knight Riders a mighty scare. But before Pandya could take Mumbai further closer to the win, Harry Gurney sent him in the 18th over. Pandya smashed 91 from just 34 deliveries with the help of 6 fours and 9 sixes. Mumbai Indians eventually ended on 198 for 7 to lose the game by 34 runs.

And after the game, former India opener Sachin Tendulkar lamented the lack of support for Pandya from the other hand. Praising the allrounder, Tendulkar said that he was unfortunate to not get the support of his teammates, tweeting:

“Truly outstanding hitting from @hardikpandya7, but unfortunately he didn’t get enough support from the rest of the team. Congratulations to @KKRiders for a very convincing victory.”
