Andre Russell continued his devastating form this season as Kolkata Knight Riders thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore by 5 wickets to register their fourth third win this season.

Chasing a mammoth 206, the Knight Riders were off to a electric start with Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine adding 28 runs in just 10 balls before the latter fell to Navdeep Saini. Lynn and Robin Uthappa then struggled to score consistently but the Knight Riders still managed to score 59 runs in the powerplay. The duo, however, soon accelerated and hit boundaries on regular intervals. Pawan Negi then broke the stand in the tenth over by dismissing Uthappa to reduce the visitors to 93 for 2.

Royal Challengers could have then dismissed Lynn in the very following over but Mohammed Siraj dropped a fairly each catch as Knight Riders crossed the 100-run mark in the 11th over.

But fortunately for the Royal Challengers, Negi castled Lynn in the very next over to send him back for 43.

Nitish Rana was the next to depart, falling in the 16th over after scoring 37 to leave the Knight Riders 139 for 4.  The game was slightly drifting towards the hosts before Andre Russell hit three sixes in the 18th over to bring down the equation to 30 from the last two overs. In the next over, he hit Tim Southee for 4 sixes and a four to collect 29 runs before Shubman Gill scored the winning runs. Russell remained unbeaten 48 off just 13 balls with the help of seven sixes.

Earlier in the game, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers finally found their rhythm as they hit whirlwind fifties to guide Royal Challengers Bangalore to a daunting 205 for 3 – their highest score this season so far.  Asked to bat first, the Royal Challengers were off to a good start with openers Parthiv Patel and Kohli adding 64 runs for the first wicket inside 8 overs. Nitish Rana broke the stand by dismissing Parthiv Patel for 25 to give the Knight Riders the much-needed first wicket.

However, the dismissal did not bring much respite for the Knight Riders as Kohli soon shifted gears and well supported by de Villiers. At the end of the 10 overs, the Royal Challengers were 78 for 2 before Kohli decided to take the attack to the Knight Riders.  In the 11th over, he dispatched Piyush Chawla to score his first IPL fifty in 8 innings. De Villiers soon joined the party as the hosts raced away to 142 for 1 after 15 overs.

De Villers also reached his fifty off just 28 balls before Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Kohli to break the dangerous stand that was worth 108 runs. De Villers and Marcus Stoinis then played some big shots towards the end to power the Royal Challengers to the mammoth total.
