IPL 2019: Twitter Reacts as Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant Power Delhi Capitals to Win
Updated - 08 Oct 2019, 03:12 PM
Delhi Capitals cruised to a six-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals after Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant came up with respective fifties knock to chase down 192. The tourist’s skipper Shreyas Iyer called the right side of the coin and decided to send the hosts into bat. Rajasthan Royals could not get off to a good start as a misunderstanding between Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson led to the downfall of the latter. Rahane had a rub of the green on his side as Ishant Sharma fluffed his catch at short fine-leg.

Subsequently, the former Rajasthan Royals skipper made sure that he made Ishant Sharma and Delhi Capitals pay for the reprieve. Rahane changed his gears and batted at the top of his game. The stylish right-hander also got support from Steven Smith, who has replaced Rahane as the leader of the side.
Rahane was at his best.
Smith and Rahane who are not known for their aggressive strike rate showed that they can pierce the gaps with perfection. Smith scored a fine knock of 50 runs from 32 laden with eight fours as he brought his back to back fifty.
Furthermore, Rahane continued to dominate as he was the aggressive partner. The duo was able to add 132 runs from only 75 balls for the second wicket partnership. Both of them brought their best to the table. Rahane completed his second IPL hundred and followed it with an animated celebration.
Royals were able to post 191 after Stuart Binny provided the last flourish of 13-ball 19. In fact, the hosts could not add the finishing touches as they could add only 41 runs in the last five overs.
Ishant Sharma conceded only 29 runs in his four overs and scalped one wicket. Furthermore, Rabada snared two wickets and gave away 37 runs in his four overs.
Pant showed his class.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals got off to a fine start as Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw added 72 runs for the opening stand, with the former playing the aggressive role. Shaw was a mere spectator to Dhawan’s assault as the southpaw raced to his fourth season’s fifty off just 25 balls. However, the left-hander perished soon after completing his personal milestone when he pranced down the wicket to Shreyas Gopal.

Shreyas Iyer soon followed Dhawan into the dugout when he top-edged against Riyan Parag. Subsequently, Rishabh Pant had the license to play like Rishabh Pant as the required rate was going up. Pant scored a fine knock as he completed his fifty from 26 balls. Prithvi Shaw scored 42 runs before he top-edged Shreyas Gopal to long-on. Pant scored a fine knock of 78 runs from 36 balls.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Delhi Capitals win:
The bails are having a very bad #IPL.

Poor finish by #RR coming back to haunt them…it’s not how you start but how you finish that matters. Can Jofra wave the magic wand to save the day?? #RRvDC #IPL

Brilliant from Rishabh Pant. He has been criticised for not finishing matches. Here you go. Very good so far, now to see if he can go the distance

If the bail doesn’t fall at Umesh and Archer’s pace, there’s a problem. Serious problem. #RRvDC #IPL

Batting very well, can he close this Pant? Yet another case where he is set.

Shabaash Pant. This is top class stuff from him. A mature and playing the situation knock

Pant has just smashed a 26-ball 50 after playing what seems like a relatively sedate innings by Pant standards

A very smart knock played by @ajinkyarahane88. He paced his innings very well. Upfront, the ball came on to the bat very well. This pitch is not as bad as it looks and if there is even a little bit of dew, then this is going to be a close game. #RRvDC pic.twitter.com/3opB5DpqiO

People who think that removing Rahane from captaincy is a good thing….should have also said that naming him as a captain was a bad move in the first place. #JustSaying #RRvDC

The wickets lost in the end overs for RR might haunt them. Needed that extra 15 runs cushion.
Delhi on course with 8 wickets in hand and needing 60 from 36.

Very happy for Ajinkya Rahane. Great attitude, joy to watch when he gets going

The best thing about Ashton Turner is that he would not waste too many balls. #RRvDC #RR#IPL2019

Rahane’s batting tonight has given us an insight into his mind. His mind is very potent and has a significant impact on the way he bats. Despite his seniority he is one who will need mentoring/handling with care all the time.

Once again the bails are adamant to come out even when Jofra Archer is bowling at 145 clicks. The light bails are 37 grams as compared to 15 grams of wooden bails. Cruel for the bowlers. #RRvDC #IPL2019
