IPL 2019: Young Mumbai Indians Spinner Rahul Chahar Reveals His Inspiration

Rahul Chahar, the young Mumbai Indians (MI) has done an excellent job in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Last night, Chahar starred with the ball against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in which his team secured a thumping victory by 40 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Although Chahar didn’t bag any wickets, he bowled a tight line and length to contain a star-studded Chennai batting unit.

Following their win against Chennai, Mumbai Indians jumped to the second spot in the points table after the Chennai Super Kings. There are on the brinks of qualifying to the playoffs. Rahul Chahar has played a crucial role which has helped him cement his berth in the playing XI leaving behind Mayan Markande. Talking about his idol, Chahar revealed that watching videos of legendary Shane Warne he started bowling leg-spin. He also told that his coach used to bring DVDs the former Australian cricketer and made him watch.

My idol is Shane Warne. When I was eight years old, my coach used to bring DVDs of Warne and made me watch them. After watching those videos, I started bowling like him,” said Chahar when asked about his role model at the post-match press conference.

Meanwhile, Rahul Chahar bowls a little bit faster than Shane Warne. Speaking on that, he said that his coach had asked him to bowl a bit quicker so that he can get more wickets.

Win over Chennai will boost confidence

Rahul Chahar also added that their victory over the defending champions will give them a lot of confidence going forward to the tournament. He also added that dismissing Shane Watson in the first over helped them to get the momentum and set the victory.

It was an important match for us and this win boosted our confidence by leaps and bounds. It was important for us to get wickets of their inform batsman. So, it was crucial that we got Shane Watson out in the very first over,” said the 19-year-old Chahar.

Next up, Mumbai Indians take on Kolkata Knight Riders on April 28 (Sunday) at the Eden Gardens. They will look to keep the winning run going and secure their playoff berth.
