In the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Delhi Capitals (DC) will try to go one better than last year. After years of wilderness, the Delhi based franchise was able to claw their way into the playoffs the last term, finishing in the third position in the group stage.

They won the eliminator versus Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) but were ultimately pipped by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for a place in the final.

This year though, they have done extremely impressive business in the IPL 2020 auction, signing some proven performers of the T20 format, such as Shimron Hetmyer and Marcus Stoinis, along with Chris Woakes and Jason Roy.

So, perhaps its time now, to end that trophy drought eh?

Here are three players from Delhi Capitals (DC) who can help them win the IPL 2020 title:

3) Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan, who is renowned by the nickname of ‘Gabbar’ is indeed merciless when he gets going. Delhi Capitals will be counting on the 34-year-old opener to give them a perfect start right from the top.

In 16 matches last season, Dhawan scored 521 runs as he led his home town franchise to the playoffs.

The left-handed run machine has played 159 matches in the IPL, wherein he has amassed 4578 runs, with an average of 33.17 and a strike rate of 124.78.

Dhawan is currently returning from an injury that he suffered against Australia playing for Team India.

He is plying his trade for Reliance 1 in the DY Patil T20 Cup, and it should be interesting to see if the selectors give a call up to the veteran for India’s upcoming ODI series versus South Africa.

Either way, he will be key to Delhi’s title credentials this season as well.

2) Shreyas Iyer

Having taken the captain’s responsibility off Gautam Gambhir in 2018, and impressing one and all with his leadership skills in 2019, perhaps its time for a title charge in 2020.

Shreyas Iyer has cemented his place in Team India, and will now look to become a mainstay there, by leading the Delhi Capitals to the IPL trophy.

In his career, the 25-year-old has played 62 matches in the cash-rich league, having scored 1681 runs so far, with an average of 30.56 and a strike rate just short of 127.

Iyer scored 463 runs last year, in 16 matches, and will have to score plenty more to take his team all the way.

He was one of the more consistent Indian players against New Zealand, the right-handed top-order batsman scored a century in the first ODI, a fifty in the second game and 62 runs in the last match.

All in all, Iyer has momentum by his side, he just needs to keep going and perhaps everything else will fall into place.

1) Marcus Stoinis

Marcus Stoinis was purchased by Delhi Capitals in this season’s auction for INR 4.80 crores, however, they must be smacking their lips after seeing Stoinis score 705 runs in 17 matches for Melbourne Stars, at the Big Bash T20 League (BBL).

While he wasn’t a big success in IPL last year, having scored just 211 runs in 10 matches, the Australian all-rounder’s current form is well and truly devastating.

In his relatively short IPL career of 29 matches, the 30-year-old has scored just 473 runs, with an average of 31.53, and a strike rate of 129.95.

However, he will be a very crucial player for the Capitals, and if Stoinis can replicate his form of the BBL in the IPL 2020, then his team would fancy their chances to end their trophy drought, this term.
