Former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper-batsman Andy Flower has been named as the assistant coach of Kings XI Punjab, on Saturday (March 7). The legendary Zimbabwean replaced Sunil Joshi at the post after the latter was recently named the chairman of India’s national selection panel.

Andy Flower will assist Anil Kumble in Kings XI’s new coaching setup. He is one of the most experienced coaches in recent times. Andy Flower served as the head coach of England and had a very stint with the side. Speaking about his new role, Andy Flower said he is ‘truly excited’ and is looking forward to working with Anil Kumble.

“I am truly excited to come on board as the assistant coach for Kings XI Punjab and look forward to working with Anil Kumble this edition of the IPL,” Flower said. “The team looks great and we have a fantastic line up and top-notch support staff and we can’t wait to show the world what the Shers are capable of.”

Adrian Le Roux, who has previously worked with the Indian national team, has been appointed as the trainer while Prabhakar B and Sankar Rajgopal will work as training assistant and R&D consultant. Andrew Leipus has been named as the team physio, assisted by Abhijit Kar and masseuse Naresh Kumar. Ashish Tuli continues as the team analyst of the side for the 11th consecutive year, while former RCB manager Avinaash Vaidhya comes in as the General Manager of Cricket Operations.

Kings XI Punjab will be looking to end their title drought this year. They have been one of the most inconsistent performers in recent times. Since making it to their maiden IPL final in 2014, they have not made it to the playoffs since then.
