Chennai Super Kings went into the auction by once again retaining the core of the team. The three-time IPL champions are known for keeping the core of the team intact right from the inaugural season of the league. Ahead of the auction, the Super Kings released five players – Sam Billings, Chaitanya Bishnoi, Dhruv Shorey, David Willey and Mohit Sharma.

Willey missed the 2019 IPL due to personal reasons as he and his wife were expecting their second child. Since it was not an injury, the team couldn’t get a replacement as well. Incidentally, the 29-year-old joined the team as a replacement for Kedar Jadhav in 2018 after the latter injured himself during the first match of that season.

Chennai Super Kings entered the auction with close to Rs 14.6 Crores in its kitty. Their biggest buy was England allrounder Sam Curran as they splashed INR 5.50 crore to secure his services. Curran had played for Kings XI Punjab in his maiden IPL season earlier this year and made a big impression with both bat and ball.

In other signings, the Super Kings roped in veteran spinner Piyush Chawla, Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood, and left-arm spinner Sai Kishore to bolster their attack.
