Chennai Super Kings have received much-needed good news after a tumultuous period upon their landing in the UAE. The camp was rocked last week when 13 of their members including two players were tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus.
But in a big relief to the team-management, all the other members of the Chennai Super Kings contingent, except for the 13 who tested positive earlier, have come out negative in the latest tests. The news was confirmed the franchise’s CEO KS Viswanathan said on Tuesday.
Previously, Viswanathan had stated that even the 13, including Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad, were among those who returned negative in tests conducted on Monday. But later he changed his statement as he confirmed there are no fresh COVID-19 cases in the camp. He also stated the team is likely to start training from Friday.
“All others, apart from the 13, have tested negative for Covid-19. They will have to undergo another test on Thursday, September 3. We are likely to start training on Friday, September 4,” Viswanathan said.
“Deepak and Ruturaj will complete their 14-day quarantine and then join training after two negative tests as per protocol,” he added.
The 13 infected contingent members will be tested at the end of their quarantine period. Things have not really gone well for Chennai Super Kings in UAE. Apart from their 13 members testing positive for COVID-19, their batting mainstay Suresh Raina has also returned home citing personal reasons.
He will miss the entire competition. Missing Raina will be a huge blow for the three-time champions. Raina has been their batting mainstay since the first-ever season of the tournament and is Super Kings’ all-time leading run-scorer. IPL 2020 is scheduled to start on September 19 and Chennai Super Kings are set to take on Mumbai Indians in the tournament-opener.
