The way things are turning out at the moment in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, it would not be at all surprising if the pandemic takes a toll on the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).  The government of India has already dealt a big blow to the league by imposing visa restrictions.

The government has cancelled all visas, except for a few official categories, till April 15. In the meeting held at Nirman Bhavan on Wednesday, it was decided that all existing visas, except diplomatic, official, UN/international organisations, employment and project visas, stand suspended till April 15.

Media reports suggest that the IPL teams would not be allowed to avail the services of their overseas players at least till April 15. Even if the government of India makes an exception, it would be interesting to see whether the other cricket boards allow their players to travel to India for the IPL.

Chennai Super Kings lineup:

As things stand now, it would not be surprising if the franchises are compelled to play an all-Indian team in the league. Things will become more clear in the coming days. But for the time being, we take a look at how Chennai Super Kings could line up this season without their overseas players.

Murali Vijay and Ambati Rayudu can be the openers for the team this season in the absence of Shane Watson. While Rayudu is the designated opener of the side, Vijay had to warm the bench for most of the games in the last two seasons. At number three, Suresh Raina is an unanimous choice.

MS Dhoni could promote himself at number four followed by Kedar Jadhav and N Jagadeesan. Ravindra Jadeja is likely to be the allrounder in the team. In the bowling department, Piyush Chawla and Harbhajan Singh look set to be the frontline spinners while Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur could be the two pacers.
