Keeper-batsman Ishan Kishan stayed out of the team for the first few matches of IPL 2020 for reasons unknown as Saurabh Tiwary took his place. But Ishan Kishan was going to play at some stage and when he did, he announced himself undroppable moving forward. The talented left-handed batsman brought the Mumbai Indians back from the dead in a match they could have lost massively.

In response to AB De Villiers’ assault that lifted the Royal Challengers to 201, the defending champions’ four of their top five could not even reach 20. It came down to Kieron Pollard’s power-hitting with Ishan Kishan playing the support role. However, Kishan was the anchor in that chase, slamming nine sixes in a knock of 99 from 58 deliveries.

At the other end, Pollard kept clearing the boundaries at will, taking Yuzvendra Chahal and Adam Zampa for a ride. In retrospect, the latter should have had the West Indian’s wicket earlier had Pawan Negi not dropped him. Nevertheless, Kishan could not get to the magical three-figure score but managed to bring the super over into play.

Despite overcoming most of the odds that night, Royal Challengers Bangalore held their nerve to win the enticing super over battle. AB De Villiers and captain Virat Kohli negated the yorker machine Jasprit Bumrah, scoring the required eight runs for the victory.
