Former India wicketkeeper Saba Karim believes MS Dhoni’s participation in Indian Premier League (IPL) is a good news for global cricket. Last month, the former India skipper decided to bring down curtains on his illustrious career but has decided to keep playing in IPL.

He will be leading Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming season of the IPL which gets underway on September 19. CSK will be locking horns against defending champions Mumbai Indians in the tournament-opener as they will be eyeing to avenge their loss in last year’s final.

And as MS Dhoni gears up to make his much-awaited return to cricket, Saba Karim, speaking to news agency AFP, said that the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman is fit enough to continue and there will be less burden on his body, considering he has called it quits from the international game.

“He is very fit and I believe he is working very hard on it. Plus he has stopped playing international cricket so there will be less burden on his body,” Saba Karim said.

“Global cricket still needs an icon like MS Dhoni to continue,” he added.

IPL 2020 will mark the return of MS Dhoni to competitive cricket. The 39-year old has not played any competitive game since last year’s World Cup in July. Soon after the tournament ended, he took an indefinite sabbatical from the game which would have ended in March this year, had the IPL taken place in time.

The upcoming tournament was seen as the one which would have paved the path for MS Dhoni to return to the national team. But the legendary cricketer decided to surprise the cricket world one more time by retiring from international cricket. Along with him, Suresh Raina had also announced his retirement.
