IPL 2020: Kolkata Knight Riders Buy England Star Eoin Morgan

It is nothing less than surprising that Eoin Morgan, one of the best white-ball players in the world right now, has not managed to attract bids in the last two auctions of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The England superstar was part of the auction for the 2018 as well as 2019 auctions but did not get any bid, much to everyone’s surprise.

Eoin Morgan had a remarkable 2019 as he became the first England captain to lift the World Cup. Morgan led from the very front in the competition as England finally laid their hands on the coveted trophy. The left-handed batsman also propelled New Zealand to a stunning T20I series win over New Zealand a few weeks ago and continued his impressive show with the bat.

As far as IPL is concerned, Morgan is pretty much familiar with playing in the tournament. He has played for as many as four teams in the competition – Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab. His last appearance in the tournament came in 2017. So far, he has played 52 games in IPL, scoring 854 runs with the help of four fifties.

Well, Eoin Morgan will play again for Kolkata Knight Riders after the two-time champions bought him for INR 5.25 crore at the auction. The Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals were involved in a fierce bidding war before the former won the race. Morgan’s base price was INR 1.5 crore.
