Things are just going from bad to worse for Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing IPL 2020. The MS Dhoni-led side, on Saturday, lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore to suffer their fifth defeat in seven games this season. With the latest defeat, their record of making it to the playoffs in all the seasons they have played so far is in serious danger.

The way they are playing at the moment, it won’t be very wrong to say that the three-time champions will perhaps need a miracle to progress ahead of the group stage this season. More than the defeats, it is the manner of the defeats that is alarming.

CSK have showed very little intent in the tournament and they repeated the same mistake against RCB. Chasing 170, the three-time champions never really looked in contention to chase down the total as the batsmen showed absolutely no urgency with the bat.

Ambati Rayudu, who came out to bat in the fourth over and remained till the 18th over, scored just 42 runs while playing out 40 balls for same as the required run-rate kept mounting. Skipper MS Dhoni started on a positive note by hitting a six early in his innings but managed to score just 10. In the end, CSK ended up on 132 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Michael Vaughan’s reaction to the defeat:

As CSK’s struggles continued in IPL 2020, former England skipper Michael Vaughan took to Twitter to state that the IPL giants’ glory years might be coming to an end. CSK are the most consistent team in the history of the competition. In the ten seasons they have played so far, they made it to the playoffs in all of them while making it to the final on eight occasions.

“I am afraid the @ChennaiIPL glory years are coming to an end .. #IPL2020,” wrote Michael Vaughan.
