Kings XI Punjab continued their dream run in IPL 2020 as they demolished Kolkata Knight Riders to capture the fourth spot in the points table. Mandeep Singh and Chris Gayle blasted half-centuries to gun down a target of 150 by eight wickets. Kings XI Punjab’s fifth victory in a row gave them a realistic chance of making to the playoffs of IPL 2020.

After choosing to field first, Kings XI Punjab reduced Kolkata Knight Riders three down within the powerplay. Skipper Eoin Morgan and Shubman Gill counterattacked with an 81-run stan; however, Morgan lost his scalp to Ravi Bishnoi. It was the only substantial stand of the innings as none of the other batsmen could get going. Shubman Gill was the sole half-centurion as the two-time champions gave 150 to chase.

Mandeep Singh and KL Rahul put up a 47-run opening partnership as the Knight Riders’ bowlers hardly gave anything away. Varun Chakravarthy snapped the wicket of KL Rahul to give Kolkata a slight opening. Mandeep Singh, who struggled initially, began playing his shots and shared a century-stand along with Chris Gayle. Gayle perished to Lockie Ferguson for 51 when KXIP required only three runs. Along with Mandeep, Nicholas Pooran took them home without jitters.
