Mumbai Indians crushed Chennai Super Kings by ten wickets in the 41st match of IPL 2020 in Sharjah, surging to the top of the points table. Chennai Super Kings lost five wickets in the powerplay as they could not recover from a horror start as they were no match for their arch-rivals. Sam Curran’s half-century was the only bright spot as he helped the yellow army avoid embarrassment.

After electing to field first, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah combined to leave Chennai Super Kings at 21-5 at one stage and CSK stared at recording the lowest team score in IPL history. Nevertheless, Sam Curran saved plenty of humiliation for the three-time champions as he fought valiantly with the tailenders to take his side to a respectable 114 and give the bowlers something to defend. Trent Boult finished with figures of 4-1-18-4.

To Curran’s dismay, the swapping of Imran Tahir for Shane Watson made no difference. The absence of Rohit Sharma allowed Ishan Kishan to mark his territory while opening the innings as the southpaw joined hands with Quinton De Kock to dismantle Chennai’s bowling attack. Josh Hazlewood and Deepak Chahar, who picked three wickets while defending 125 against Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi had no answers to Mumbai’s openers’ onslaught, finishing the game in 12.2 overs.
