Another big player who was released before the auction for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was Robin Uthappa. Kolkata Knight Riders decided to release the batsman who was their batting mainstay not very long ago. The decision came after the right-handed batsman failed to impress in the last edition of the tournament.

In 12 matches in IPL 2019, Robin Uthappa managed to score just 282 runs as the Knight Riders failed to make it past the league stage. Uthappa first joined the franchise in 2014 and became an instant hit.Part of the Indian team that won the inaugural World T20, Robin Uthappa had gone on to win the Orange Cap after scoring a staggering 660 runs and helped the team win the title for the second time.

Over the years, he established himself as an integral part of the Knight Riders team. He was released by the Knight Riders before the 2018 season too before being signed up by them again by using the Right to Match card. The wicketkeeper-batsman was bought by the franchise for Rs 6.4 crore but he failed to deliver.

Robin Uthappa will now play for Rajasthan Royals after the inaugural IPL winners secured his services for INR 3 crore after he registered his name at the base price for INR 1.5 crore. The Royals faced some competition from Kings XI Punjab but managed to have the final laugh.
