Three-time IPL finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore have secured the services of South Africa allrounder Chris Morris. Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore started the bidding for the allrounder whose base price was at INR 1.5 crore. Royals were then replaced by Kings XI Punjab while Royal Challengers made it clear that they want the allrounder at any cost.

Mumbai Indians also tested the Royal Challengers’ resolve. The Royal Challengers eventually got their player for INR 10 crore.

Chris Morris was a surprising release by Delhi Capitals ahead of the ongoing auction. The South Africa allrounder, who is still one of the most sought after players in the shortest format of the game, did really well for Delhi since joining the team in 2016. Before joining Delhi, he was a part of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.  In his maiden season with the Delhi-based team, he made an instant impression with his 32-ball 82 runs knock against Gujarat Lions being the standout performance.

Morris was retained for 7.1 crore for the 2018 IPL, but was later ruled out of the tournament, due to an injury he sustained during the first few matches. He played for the side in 2019 too, helping it make it to the playoffs for the first time since 2012. He picked up 13 wickets in 9 games in that season. Morris has struggled for consistency and with his fitness in recent times and will be looking to make his mark in the tournament once again.

Morris’ strength is his ability to bowl well in the death overs as well as the ability to take wickets at regular intervals. He has also been in fine form this year in T20s, having picked up 44 wickets in 36 games.
