Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer has given a massive update on Ravichandran Ashwin’s injury after his side’s IPL 2020-opener against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday.
The ace spinner injured his shoulder while going for a dive off the last ball of his first over for Delhi Capitals and was seen grimacing in pain while holding his left shoulder. He did not take any risk and walked off the field straightaway and did not come back for the rest of the game.
The off-spinner was also seen with his left arm in a sling, as commentators spoke of a possible dislocated shoulder. And while the injury looked pretty bad in the start, Shreyas Iyer has delivered a very promising update. He said that Ravichandran Ashwin told him he was fine and ‘ready’ for the next game.
“I briefly spoke to Ashwin, and he says he’ll be ready for the next game, but in the end, the physio is going to decide,” Iyer said in the post-match presentation.
Well, if the injury is indeed not as bad as it looked initially, Ravichandran Ashwin is likely to be fit for Delhi’s next clash which is against Chennai Super Kings on September 25 in Dubai.
Delhi would be hoping that the spinner recovers quickly especially after the form he showed in the only over he managed to bowl against Kings XI Punjab. The India ace picked up the wickets of Karun Nair and Nicholas Pooran in his very first over for Delhi before injuring his shoulder.
As far as the game is concerned, Delhi Capitals beat Kings XI Punjab in the super over after both the teams ended on 157. In the super over, Kagiso Rabada bowled brilliantly to restrict Kings XI Punjab to just two runs before Rishabh Pant did the rest with the bat.
