Former India cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar is highly impressed by Shubman Gill as the Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) opener concluded his terrific IPL campaign.

In a topsy-turvy season for KKR, Shubman Gill was a consistent performer. The right-hander ended the season as the leading run-scorer for Kolkata. He amassed 440 runs at an average of 33 and struck three half-centuries. Gill is scaling new heights every year, in domestic cricket and the IPL. He had also played a couple of ODIs for the Indian team last year.

He is one of India’s brightest talents: Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar while doing commentary in the Kolkata-Rajasthan match touted Gill as one of the brightest talents in the country. This happened after the fifth ball of the second over of KKR’s inning. The right-hander whipped a Varun Aaron delivery off the pads to the boundary line with the use of his elegant wrists.

Gavaskar, the cricketer-turned-commentator, was delighted to see that shot and praised Gill by saying that the youngster is one most talented prospects in India.

Sunil Gavaskar while doing commentary said, “That’s why he (Shubamn Gill) is one of India’s brightest talents.”

It is not the first time that the legend has lavished praise for the Punjab cricketer. Earlier he has said that Gill has a solid technique on pitches that have extra bounce as he picks up the length nice and early. The former opener said that the testament of a quality player is how he plays the best bowlers and he believes that the 21-year-old has shown enough glimpses of his class. Gavaskar feels that the KKR opener is the guy for the future.

“Gill does have the technique. On a surface that had plenty of bounce, he had the ability to punch off the back foot. He picked up the length nicely. He just looks like he’s got a lot of time.

“Whenever you look at a quality player, you look at how they play the best bowlers. He showed enough glimpses to say ‘look he is the guy we have got to invest in,” Gavaskar has said earlier.

Kolkata defeated Rajasthan by 60 runs but lost the playoff race to RCB and SRH who pipped them on the net run rate after all three teams finished with 14 points.
