All eyes are now on the auction for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) next year. The much-awaited auction will take place on December 19 in Kolkata. As may as 338 cricketers will go under the hammer. It will not be a big auction this time around with only 73 slots to be filled by the eight franchises. Out of those 73, only 29 can be overseas buys.

Just like the previous years, there are a number of big names as well as exciting young prospects in the auction pool. The likes of Glenn Maxwell, Robin Uthappa, Chris Lynn, Eoin Morgan and Aaron Finch are some of the big names. On the other hand, the likes of Noor Ahmad Lakanwal, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Priyam Garg are some of the youngsters who can cause a bidding war.

IPL to start in March:

While the BCCI is yet to release the schedule for the next season of the IPL, ESPNCricinfo has reported that the tournament is likely to get underway in March, According to the news outlet, the BCCI has earmarked the period between March 28 and May 24 as the prospective window for the tournament.

At a briefing on Wednesday in Kolkata, the IPL told the eight franchises that the final dates for next year’s tournament would be worked out soon. The IPL also stated that the governing council is planning on reducing the number of day matches as far as possible. For the time being, the IPL is working on finalising the start date for the tournament keeping in mind the availability of overseas players.

The overseas players are likely to arrive in India around April 1, which happens to be a weekday. Traditionally, the IPL  has started during the weekend and thus the organisers are concerned about the start date for the next season.
