ToggleDelhi Capitals, on Wednesday, beat Rajasthan Royals by 13 runs to get back to winning ways. The win is Delhi’s sixth of the season in eight games while Royals suffered their fifth loss in eight games.
Chasing 162, Rajasthan Royals were off to a good start with Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes adding 37 runs in just three overs before the former was sent back by Anrich Nortje. Three runs later, captain Steve Smith departed too for 1 before Stokes and Sanju Samson steadied the ship with a 46-run stand.
Royals were cruising when Stokes and Samson were batting before Delhi Capitals turned the game on its head by dismissing both of them along with Riyan Parag to turn the game on its head. Royals suddenly found themselves five down for 110 from 86 for 2.
Robin Uthappa’s 32-run knock brought the chase back on track but Nortje castled him at a crucial time while conceding just 4 runs in 18th over to all but seal Royals’ fate. With 22 runs needed in the final over, Rahul Tewatia and Shreyas Iyer could only manage eight as Royals finished on 148 for 8.
Earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals rode on opener Shikhar Dhawan and captain Shreyas Iyer’s fifties to post a challenging total of 161 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. Iyer’s decision to bat first seemed to have backfired initially when Jofra Archer castled in-form Prithvi Shaw for a duck on the very first ball of the match.

In his following over, Archer sent back Ajinkya Rahane to reduce Delhi Capitals to 10 for 2. But before Royals could make further inroads in the game, Dhawan and Iyer steadied the ship. The duo shared an 85-run stand before Dhawan departed for 57.
His knock came off 33 balls and was studded with six fours and a couple of sixes. Iyer, on the other hand, was struggling to play the big shots and was batting on 38 off 37 balls at one stage before hitting Jaydev Unadkat for two sixes in an over to complete his fifty off 40 balls.
But before he could play more big shots, Kartik Tyagi sent him back on the last ball of the 16th over. Delhi Capitals failed to finish their innings on a strong note as they managed to score only 32 runs in the final five overs while losing four wickets.
Here are some of the reactions to the match:
It was a score where both teams were in it to win it. Well done @DelhiCapitals on winning this game. It was important for @SDhawan25 to play that quick inning for the team. #nortje #rabada #ShikharDhawan #ashwin #TusharDeshpande

Well done Delhi Capitals! What a remarkable fight-back. This kind of win only gives the confidence to lift the trophy.
@ashwinravi99 has been so good in middle overs. Tushar Despande cool in death overs. #DCvsRR #RRvDC #IPL2020— R P Singh रुद्र प्रताप सिंह (@rpsingh) October 14, 2020
I think teams will chase 39 off 30 balls almost 100% of the time if they just avoid this “take it deep” philosophy.

Tewatia sir is deliberately not hitting right now. He is waiting for the required run-rate to reach the level that justifies his hitting talent.

After Shreyas Iyer fall down while fielding, there was possible two runs there but Ben Stokes that time refused to take it seeing Iyer’s condition. Lovely gesture from Stokes, a top guy.

Very impressed with Kartik Tyagi in his last two overs. Need to handle these young pacers well. I think we have the know-how to develop batsmen but we need to take these young fast bowling talents like Tyagi, Mavi, Prasidh, Nagarkoti etc to the next level.
