SunRisers Hyderabad allrounder Vijay Shankar has not been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 and is available for selection in the remaining matches of the competition.

Several media reports, on Saturday, stated that the allrounder has been ruled out of the tournament after suffering a hamstring injury during the game against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday earlier this week.

He had suffered the injury while bowling his second over of the game. After bowling the fifth ball of the over, he was seen clutching his left hamstring. He received treatment from the physio but it didn’t help his cause as he had to walk off the field. David Warner had to bowl the remaining one ball of his over.

After the end of the game, captain Warner did confirm the injury, saying:

“Unfortunately, he’s (Saha) got a little groin niggle but hopefully, it isn’t too bad. Shankar has a hamstring issue as well.”

And fortunately for SRH, their ace allrounder is still available for selection in IPL 2020. A source close to the player told Cricket Addictor that Vijay Shankar is not ruled out of the tournament. He is still not fully fit but is still a part of the squad for the tournament.

Missing the allrounder would have been a big blow for the Hyderabad-based outfit. The David Warner-led side is currently involved in a tight playoffs race. With 5 wins from 12 games, they are languishing at the bottom of the points table but are still in contention. Of late, Vijay Shankar has been looking in good form with both bat as well as ball.

Last week, he had scored a match-winning fifty against Rajasthan Royals. So far, he has scored 97 runs in seven games. He also picked up four wickets while having an economy-rate of just 6.22. SRH will be in action next on Saturday when they lock horns against Royal Challengers Bangalore in a do-or-die clash.
