IPL Governing Council is all set to meet on August 02 to give a final shape to the schedule and other details of the 13th edition of the cash-rich league which is set to take place in the United Arab Emirates from September 19.

The 13th edition of the IPL was originally scheduled to take place in India between March 29-May 24 but the tournament, after having been postponed twice, was forced out of the country due to the rapidly escalating Covid-19 situation in the country.

“The IPL governing council will meet on August 2,” IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel told PTI.

A top official of the BCCI was quoted as saying by the PTI that the franchises will get the Standard Operating Procedure that will give them a clear picture of the modalities of the tournament during the meeting.

“It is expected that franchises will be handed the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) after the meeting,” the senior official said on condition of anonymity.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah, whose terms are over, will take part in the meeting. Both Ganguly and Shah have sought a relaxation in the Lodha Committee cooling-off norms. The hearing for the same will take place on August 17.

Since the matches will be going to be played behind closed doors in the UAE, measures to negate the loss of gate money will also be discussed. Franchises will be sending their teams early in order to check out the facilities and the bio-bubble created by the authorities, something that has been a point of concern for everyone.

Another point of contention will be whether the families will be allowed to accompany the players. A senior BCCI official was quoted as saying that it would be ‘criminal’ to keep players away from their families for a period of two months.

“During normal times, the wives and girlfriends, join the players during a specified period but this is a completely different scenario. If families travel, can they be confined to rooms without being able to move around normally?” an official asked.

“There will be players who have kids aged between 3 to 5 and how do you keep them in a room for two months?” he added.
