Anil Kumble is one of those legendary cricketers, who have already witnessed a lot of success in their respective roles. Be it as the cricketer or as the head coach or even as the administrator, Anil Kumble has done remarkable services to the game of cricket without fail. In the latest, he signed a deal for Kings XI Punjab to be their head coach and head of cricket operations for IPL 2020.

If you simplify job becomes easier – Anil Kumble

Previously, Anil Kumble was involved in IPL with Royal Challengers Bangalore. Following it, he had great success with Mumbai Indians. Now, he joins a new franchise, who are yet to win a single trophy. In fact, they ended at the bottom half of the table on most occasions.

“With RCB we did not win the title but we came close a couple of times. With Mumbai, we had wonderful success those three years I was there. It is nice to have the experience of crossing the line. It certainly helps (you as a coach),” Kumble told PTI on Wednesday.

“It is all about a game of cricket at the end of it. If you simplify like that the job becomes a lot easier. The moment you start putting importance to result in wins, trophies then it puts more pressure on the players. So the learning is just to back off and help the players relax and when they are relaxed they tend to perform better,” he added.

Back the players you have:

Further, Anil Kumble added that he doesn’t want his players or the coaching panel to look after another franchise during the course of the tournament. He doesn’t want anyone to get influenced by looking at the other franchises.

“You learn from the previous experiences you have had as a player, as a coach but IPL is a rollercoaster ride. You need to be patient and then back the players you have. Generally, because of certain results, you tend to start looking at other teams and that starts influencing your decision and that is the last thing you want.”

Will Ravichandran Ashwin lead the team again?

Speaking of the upcoming season, Anil Kumble hopes to put a fine show in the tournament. Analysing the previous season, Anil Kumble feels that Ashwin has done brilliantly despite not yielding the results as was expected. However, Punjab is yet to finalise their skipper.

“We have not decided that yet. Some decisions need to be made but we don’t need to decide at this moment. IPL is still five months away. There is an auction coming up, we will start to build a squad around that as well. Ashwin had a wonderful two years but of course, we did not get the right results but we have not made any decision who the captain will be.”

Earlier, it was Mike Hesson, who used to be the head coach of the team. However, ahead of his interview with the BCCI for the national team head coach role, the former Kiwi coach parted ways with the team. Ironically, he joins Royal Challengers Bangalore while former RCBian Anil Kumble joins Kings XI Punjab.
