IPL 2018: Ishank Jaggi Likely to Replace Injured Nitish Rana against CSK
The top-order batsman from Jharkhand, Ishank Jaggi is likely to replace in-form Nitish Rana in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) playing XI against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Thursday (May 3).
Meanwhile, Rana has been outstanding so far in the middle-order for the Knight Riders.
So far, the aggressive batsman has amassed 188 runs from eight games providing sheer strength in the batting unit.
The young all-rounder from Delhi has also chipped in with useful wickets in the middle-order.
However, Rana suffered a back strain and walked off the field while batting on 17 during their six-wicket win against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 29.
Moreover, he skipped Wednesday’s training session and is likely to miss the all-important clash against CSK.
“He’s lower back spasms. The medical team will take a call tomorrow morning,” an official said.
Jaggi to slot in:
The 27-year-old Jaggi has huge experience in the domestic circuit and will like to make full use of the opportunity.
The right-handed batsman Jaggi has the ability to rotate the strike and can also accelerate when needed.
The KKR dugout will want a superlative effort the batsman if Rana fails to make it in time.
Meanwhile, this is Jaggi’s third IPL team having played for Deccan Chargers (now defunct) and Royal Challengers before.
However, he didn’t get enough opportunity to prove his worth during the previous editions.
So far, Jaggi has played only seven games scoring 76 runs with the highest score of 28.
Moreover, this will be a huge opportunity for Ishank Jaggi and he will be desperate to cash in.
On the hindsight, Kolkata will look to continue the winning momentum and take one step closer to the playoffs.
The Kolkata-based outfit will have to give an all-round shot to beat CSK, who turned out to be unstoppable since their return following two-year hiatus.
