You don’t wish to be the one dropping Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s catch at the boundary. Young sensation Shubman Gill Wednesday night made on up for the dropped catch and became the fourth-youngest cricketer to score a fifty in Indian Premier League (IPL).

The teenager in the form of Gill forged an 83-run stand with the skipper Dinesh Karthik, in a bid to take Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) home with 14 balls to spare against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Gill was promoted up the order and he responded brilliantly. The right-hand batsman hit six fours and two sixes on his way to an unbeaten 57 off 36 balls.

The promising batsman played all around the wicket and never looked like a one-dimensional player.

After the six-wicket win, Gill shared his thoughts on his match-winning knock. He said he was aware of the fact that he had to make up for the dropped catch.

Gill added that he had a conversation with Karthik on how to play in the death overs.

“I am very pleased to have batted at No. 4. The fielder had dropped a catch, so I had to finish the game. Was talking with DK about how to deal with the death overs. Especially with the spinners bowling.” Gill asserted.

On the strategy, Gill said that he looked to stay busy at the crease. He also lauded the spirited of the crowd that turned up in large numbers.

With the likes of Jacques Kallis and Simon Katich around, the newcomer was in safe hands and he did mention how it has improved his game.

“Plan was about making sure that runs are flowing, and if the ball is bad, we’ll hit. KKR crowd is the best. No matter whether we win or lose. Great IPL experience, Jacques Kallis and Simon Katich are great, so much to learn from them.” he said.

Karthik remained unbeaten on 45 off 18 balls. While Sunil Narine contributed with a crucial 32 at the top apart from bagging a couple of wickets.
