Not only did Chennai Super Kings had a forgettable IPL 2020, but MS Dhoni had one too. MS Dhoni, the captain of Chennai Super Kings, could hardly showcase the explosive power-hitting skills and game-changing knocks he is already known for. There were also phases when the 39-year old struggled to fight his fatigue amid the heat in the UAE. And former all-rounder Irfan Pathan has opined on Dhoni’s poor form this year.

MS Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in August this year, stated he would continue to feature in IPL. Having not played competitive cricket over a year, the Ranchi cricketer was out of touch. In 14 games, he managed only 200 runs at 25 with a strike rate of 116.28. The Super Kings needed Dhoni’s power-hitting skills a lot many times; however, he was unable to provide the same.

Irfan Pathan claimed that MS Dhoni would remain with the Super Kings as long as he wants. Nevertheless, Pathan began contemplating what the 2010-11 version of Dhoni would be telling to the present one. The 35-year old concluded that he would be telling the latest version to come with a better fitness level and performance. Pathan did not doubt that the former Indian captain would do the same.

MS Dhoni will be associated with CSK till the time he wants. But if we talk about the next season alone, I was thinking in my mind after seeing MS Dhoni playing the entire season for CSK, what the captain MS Dhoni of 2010 or 2011 would be telling the MS Dhoni of 2020 in this situation. He would have said to come next year with better fitness and performance and it is clear that he will do that as well, that is the expectation,” Pathan told in the Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.

Former Indian seamer Ashish Nehra felt glad to hear that the 39-year old will return for IPL next year and hopes to stay associated with the franchise even after he retires. Nehra wants to see the keeper-batsman mentor the franchise or work behind the scenes, which will prove fruitful for the side.

It was great to hear that MS Dhoni will be playing for CSK next year. But once he stops playing, as no one can play for ever, we hope that he keeps associated to CSK. If we see him in the dugout as a coach or as a mentor, it will be a very good thing but even if he manages the team from behind the stage, it will be very important for CSK,” he added.
