A senior Indian player has reportedly landed in hot water for flouting BCCI‘s family clause during the World Cup. The player in question had specifically requested for his wife to stay with him for more than the permissible period of 15 days. The Committee of Administrators had shot down his request only to see the player flouting the rules.

The Indian Express has stated that the player’s wife stayed with him for the entire seven-week duration of the tournament without seeking permission from either the captain or the coach for her extended stay. Well, it looks like the player in question is none other than veteran wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni.

During the World Cup, CricketAddictor had broken the story for the first time after spotting Dhoni’s family in the stands.  As per the rules,  the wives and family members of Indian players are allowed to stay with the cricketers for a 15-day period and that too 21 days after team India’s first match.

Consequently, the players were not allowed to invite their wives before June 26. However, Sakshi Dhoni attended India’s World Cup-opener on June 5 and stayed for the entire duration of the tournament. Sakshi herself took to Instagram to post some photos from the match on her Instagram story.

Things are just not falling in place at the moment for the former India skipper. He now faces punishment from the BCCI and the CoA for breaking the rules. Dhoni is not having a good time on the field too. After an indifferent display with the bat in the World Cup, the pressure has further mounted on him.

India are set to tour West Indies later this month but Dhoni has made himself unavailable for the series. He, however, is unlikely to retire from the game anytime soon.
